IN 2022…
people have a real bone to pick with “DIY subversive basics”. curious to know what other common people think should stay in 2021 and maybe come back in 2022, i sent out a little survey to a bunch of random contacts asking for their expert opinions.
to be generous, i used this photo of an actually interesting ensemble (that isn’t DIY) from brand ERYS, but survey-responders feel strongly about this trend staying in 2021.
…like very strongly. which i can totally agree on bc im tired of seeing it all over Depop! it was an interesting take on minimalism at first but now we are over it bc it’s exited high fashion and into SHEIN ❤️
OUT: NIKE AIR FORCE ONE LOW TOPS
i know the tweet is outdated but 😰 another response from the survey. it’s like the Fila Disuptors all over again!! i think it’s time for whoever has these to trade them in for some Hokas, Salomons, or even Asics.
IN: MARITHÉ + FRANÇOIS GIRBAUD
Girbaud is one of those timeless brands that i don’t think has ever really been in or out, considering the wide range of aesthetics the brand has among their pieces. they teeter between minimalism, technical-wear, and rave-wear but also the brand is known for their denim. i think brands that have a focus on comfortability and functionality will continue to become more “on trend” with the continuing rise and interest in athleisure. def hope to see more Girbaud in 2022 - here’s a vintage skirt i recently purchased from them.
IN/OUT: UGG BOOTS
someone in the survey said they want these outtt in 2022 but i have to disagree! Uggs, to me, are timeless! and i think they’ll continue to be a comfortable but fugly staple 💒
OUT: FAST FASHION HAULS
it blows my mind that these exist in the first place given the fact that everyone and their mothers report on how terrible brands like SHEIN, F21, Princess Polly, and other fast fashion brands are, but influencers make big bucks on these videos so of course they continue to make more. it’s obvious these videos need to become extinct in 2022, but it’s unlikely they truly will until these brands stop producing anything, period. while, younger generations (us, gen-zers) are very concerned about sustainability and the environment, it seems like they still can’t completely stay away from fast fashion.
